What is the study about?
The purpose of this research is to better understand how family caregivers make decisions in day-to-day life about how to help their loved one with dementia. We are also interested in learning more about how family caregivers prioritize decisions in light of other competing demands in daily life.
How do you participate?
We will ask you to complete online surveys. First, we will ask you to complete a longer survey that helps us get to know you, your loved one and your caregiving situation. Then, we will ask you to complete short diary surveys about daily life and events. These daily diary surveys will also ask about things that happened during the day such as other help you had or how you were feeling that day. These diary surveys will be completed daily for 21 days. We will pay you for your time.
It is OK if you miss a couple of diary surveys, but we ask you to complete as many as you can. The more complete diary surveys we get the better we can understand areas in which family caregivers need more support.
We will be contacting some participants to complete a follow up telephone interview. The purpose of the interview is to get more in-depth details about the kinds of decisions caregivers make in daily life. This interview will be open-ended, meaning we will be asking you for stories about your caregiving daily life. This follow up interview is optional, and you can decline if you are asked.
